Casino complaints in the UK: the ladder that actually works
A withheld withdrawal or voided win has a defined, free escalation path in the UK — most players just never use it. Three steps, in order, with the evidence habits that make each one count.
1.Complain to the casino — formally, in writing
Every UKGC-licensed casino must operate a complaints procedure, and using it is the mandatory first step — the ADR stage will ask for proof you did. Find "Complaints" in the site footer or help pages, and file in writing (email or the complaint form), not live chat alone.
Say precisely what happened with dates and amounts, what outcome you want, and attach your evidence: the withdrawal screen, chat transcripts, the bonus terms you were shown. From your formal complaint the operator has up to eight weeks to resolve it or issue a final response — a "deadlock letter" — that unlocks the next step.
Keep everything. Screenshots with visible dates are the difference between a case and an anecdote at every later stage.
2.Escalate to the operator’s ADR body — free, and they must offer it
Every UK licensee is required to name an approved Alternative Dispute Resolution provider that adjudicates player disputes at no cost to you — the operator pays. The casino’s complaints page or terms tell you which provider covers it; IBAS (the Independent Betting Adjudication Service) handles the bulk of UK gambling disputes, with eCOGRA and a handful of others covering the rest.
You can go to ADR once you have a final response, or once the eight weeks pass without resolution. Submit the same evidence pack plus the operator’s replies. The adjudicator rules on disputes of fact and the application of terms — exactly the "they voided my winnings" and "my withdrawal vanished" cases.
ADR is the step most players never take, and it is the one with teeth. It costs you nothing but time.
3.Tell the Gambling Commission — as a report, not an appeal
The Commission does not adjudicate individual disputes and will not order a casino to pay you. What it does do is collect consumer reports and use them as regulatory intelligence — patterns of complaints are how enforcement cases start, including the multi-million-pound penalties we track in our reviews.
So report failures like ignored self-exclusion, marketing after opting out, or a broken complaints process even after your own case resolves. You are not appealing; you are adding to the file that regulators act on.
Want it documented while you escalate?
File the same case with our Complaint Desk. We verify it, put it to the operator with a 14-day window, and the outcome — resolved or not — feeds the complaint statistics on that casino's review, where future players see it.
File with the Complaint DeskCommon questions
The casino says my winnings breached bonus terms. Is that always final?
No — but it is often correct. Max-bet limits, game restrictions and wagering rules are enforceable when they were clearly presented. ADR exists precisely to judge whether terms were fair and fairly applied. Before escalating, re-read the exact clause the casino cites: if your play genuinely breached it, escalation will fail, and knowing that early saves you eight weeks.
Can I just do a chargeback instead?
Treat chargebacks as a last resort for genuine fraud, not disputed gambling outcomes. Operators respond to chargebacks by closing accounts and contesting them with their transaction records, and a lost chargeback weakens every later step. The ADR route exists for exactly this and does not poison your case.
How long does the whole ladder take?
The operator stage runs up to eight weeks. ADR timescales vary by provider and case complexity — weeks to a few months. It is slower than anger and faster than court, and it is free.
Where does Check.casino’s Complaint Desk fit?
We run our own verification-and-contact process in parallel: file with us and we screen the case against the operator’s terms, put it to the operator with a 14-day reply window, and record the outcome in the per-casino statistics on our reviews. We are not an ADR body and never replace the official ladder — we are the layer that documents it and holds outcomes in public view.
18+. Complaints and disputes are separate from safer-gambling tools — if gambling itself is the problem, GAMSTOP self-exclusion and the National Gambling Helpline (0808 8020 133) are the right doors, and they work regardless of any dispute.
